3×3 Hustle Newcastle

The 3×3 Hustle Newcastle was an exciting street basketball tournament held at Wheeler Place on January 18th & 19th, 2020. The event brought together basketball players from Newcastle, the broader Hunter region, and across NSW to compete in the first-ever 3×3 Hustle tournament in the city. Designed to activate public space and promote community engagement through sport, the tournament successfully fostered participation, inclusivity, and local pride.

Engenicom was engaged by Playgrounds Park to provide event management and project coordination services, ensuring the smooth planning and execution of this high-profile sporting event.

Key responsibilities included:

• Logistical Operations – Managing event infrastructure, setup, and scheduling.
• Competition Direction – Overseeing match scheduling, officiating, and tournament rules enforcement.
• Cost Management – Monitoring event budgets, sponsorships, and financial accountability.
• Council Approvals – Liaising with Newcastle Council and relevant authorities to secure necessary permits.
• Location Selection & Coordination – Ensuring Wheeler Place was optimally prepared and activated for the tournament.
